about

This snappy little pop-ditty that clocks in at just a hair over 2 minutes is from the next-to-last sessions ever by The Rake's Progress, that were recorded by Bryce Goggin at Baby Monster, Coyote, and Dessau Studios in Manhattan and Williamsburg Brooklyn in 1995. These were "demos" for what was to be our 2nd release with the Almo/Geffen enterprise, but out of 30 some-odd tracks "the A&R man said 'I don't hear a single'" and the band was dumped from the label. Sorry, couldn't help myself bogarting the Tom Petty there :-)

These tracks were never released before. As "demos" they were done in a much more organic fashion than the big-budget recordings, and this particular track was mixed by Bryce in a marathon overnight session at Baby Monster, along with about 14 other tracks. Studio time was cheaper overnight and the budget was very tight at that point. God bless you Bryce Goggin, but this was definitely one of the "later in the session" mixes.

Incidentally, this track is the live band with no overdubs whatsoever, recorded in a single take, including the vocals.
